Instructions AFTER your Endodontic Treatment

Once your Endodontic treatment is completed, there are a few things to note.

Please do not eat solid foods or drink any hot liquids until the numbness has gone. Your root canal is permanently sealed but the outer surface only has a temporary filling which needs to be permanently restored in a few weeks. Up to that time, please avoid chewing or biting with the tooth. You MAY brush and floss as normal. If your temporary filling falls out or breaks, please call our office immediately.

If you root canal was done on a back tooth, it may require a crown for protection from fracture. Please make an appointment with your regular dentist for any further treatment to your teeth. Your dentist will receive a full report of your Endodontic treatment.

After your treatment, there may be some sensitivity for a few days. This is normal. Aspirin or ibuprofen may be used to relieve any discomfort you may have. If swelling develops or if the pain is overbearing, or lasts longer than a few days, please contact our office .

After 6 months, a follow-up exam may be needed to check on the healing process of your root canal. This check-up appointment should only last a few minutes and will include no extra fee.
